We Love to Travel
Through travel we get to know the world — and ourselves.
About SMorris Travels
Welcome to the mid-range, no-filter side of travel. We’re Jeremy and Shana — both retired Coast Guard, both in our early 50s — and we take travel seriously without taking ourselves seriously.
We’re well past the backpacker hostel phase. We’re not in the luxury hotel crowd either. The benchmark around here is around $275 a night: comfortable, not excessive. We take a handful of meaningful trips a year, and we work the credit card and points system deliberately — researched, intentional, with specific outcomes in mind. Business class seats when the redemption makes sense. A hotel upgrade when the program actually delivers.
We write honest accounts of what we found. Including what didn’t work, what was overhyped, and what we’d do differently.
No frills, no filters — just two people telling you exactly what happened. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place.

Two pilots. One points strategy. No North Dakota.
We’re both retired Coast Guard helicopter pilots — Jeremy’s career grew from the cockpit into command, retiring as a Captain after over 25 years. Shana’s grew from flying into joint operations with the Department of Defense.
Jeremy’s first trip to Europe was at 16. Thirty years in the military kept him moving and kept expanding what “travel” meant. Shana’s first trip to Europe was at 47 — and she’s been building reasons to go back ever since.
Between us: 49 states for Jeremy, 43 for Shana. Both still circling North Dakota without a compelling reason to land.
Planners by training — but we’ve booked flights to cities without a single reservation and figured it out when we landed. Five kids out the door. The freedom is recent and we’re using it.
